DOS: Free meals for the future PDF Print E-mail

The Ministry of Education and Sports of Slovenia has prepared a new draft law which takes into account DOS standpoints and for this reason the organisation considers the draft to be generally well prepared. But there is one part that DOS disagrees with: the 100% subsidy for meals has been cancelled.

The Ministry is, indeed, suggesting a 66.12% subsidy with the possibility to provide additional financial support according to the income per family member. This would mean that even more students would be socially divided and social class differentiations would once again be a problematic issue.

DOS, moreover, also recognizes the importance of a balanced and healthy diet and it is afraid of the consequences that the reduced subsidies could bring. Many students will not be able to benefit from a healthy meal: this is why DOS thinks that the goal of this law is clearly wrong.

DOS has step into action and has begun collecting signatures from school students for the petition against the new draft law. DOS has already collected more than 20.000 signatures and is going to hand them over to the Minister of Education and Sports of Slovenia.
