Members
LAKS organises school students, from all secondary levels (age of 12 to 18). Both individual school students and school student councils can become members. Since 2006, this is for free. The members come together twice a year, on the general assembly where they elect the board (consisting of 5 or 7 members). The members can also be active in different committees.
Number of members
LAKS has a couple of hundreds members. (April 2006)
Examples of activities organised by LAKS
- Final exam complaint line: The LAKS organises the annual "final exam complaint line". The examinees can report their complaints about the exams taken. Thanks to this service LAKS gets an overall picture of the problems, disturbances and flaws concerning the Final exams which are reported to the government institutions.
- Researches: frequently the LAKS publishes researches about education and student related issues. In March 2005, the LAKS published a report about the "VMBO", one of the education levels in The Netherlands. Which was received by the political parties and ministry with great interest.
- Complaints and information center: All secondary education related questions can be asked here, whether it is about education, participation, exams, the students charter, or formal regulations.
- Courses: every year approximately 400 students participate in the 3-day courses co-organised by the LAKS. They learn about the rights and obligations of students and how they can improve their school.
