FAR TOO LITTLE! OBESSU calls for more progressive goals for the Education and Training 2020 Programme
During the meeting of the Council on Education, Youth and Culture in Brussels (11th-12th May, 2009), the representatives adopted the follow-up work programme of the Education and Training 2010 programme. Unfortunately, the new programme has the same blind spots as the old one. Still the approach on education is mainly economic and the narrow view on formal education has not changed at all. Although the Council stresses the need of greater co-operation between education and training institutes and stakeholders, employers are foreseen as the main partners of this co-operation. The Organizing Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) has always claimed a greater acknowledging of young people as self-defined stakeholders, but the current process is a knockdown blow for all young people that are working for a better Europe.

AKS Campaign: We re-shuffle the cards for a society free of capitalism!
AKS started its new campaign for a socially fair society in every aspect. Not only the economic influence on our educational system is one of the main points, but also the discriminations against women, like gaining less money for the same job as men or even not getting the job because of their gender. It also tackles the capitalistic system, where a few individuals pile up vast amounts of money while the a evergrowing number of persons does not have even enough to live their life.

USO had employed their general secretary Michael Stampfli for 30% whereas he obviously works way more than that. We are happy that we can finally afford a second 30% employment, which Marius Wiher will take as an international secretary.
