GET ACTIVE! – A working manual for school student unions
In Europe we face a lack of active citizenship beyond the Youth. We believe that it is not the fault of young people, but more a problem of too little possibilities offered in the society to inspire young people to get active and engaged.
GET ACTIVE! is a working manual for school student unions that will be produced by OBESSU during 2006.
The main idea behind this publication is to help students to build up school student structures on school, regional or national level. Further to give new ideas and improve the work of existing structures in the different European countries. The publication will be created with the tendency to support democratic processes in society - starting from its basis the schools.

The manual contains:
- An overview of how school students organize in different countries in Europe. Presenting structures and good practices
- Advices for how to build up a school student organisation containing lists of things necessary to undertake in this process, examples, ideas on events for the beginning of the functioning and how to gather engaged people successfully.
- Ideas and methods on how to ensure that the people in the organisation stay motivated. Containing concrete actions for school student organisations for. Further there will be guidelines and advices for organising different events, as seminares, demonstrations or panel discussions.
- Advices for external representation. Guidelines on how to work with news media, campaigns to get the own message to the people, lobbying etc.
- Information on how to lead groups, rhetoric, presentation techniques, project management and a lot of other soft skills.
This project will be realized in the beginning of autumn 2006. The project officer will coordinate the work, a group out of 6 people will write it in close contact to OBESSU's member organisations to ensure that the publication includes what the students need.
The publication has about 120 pages and will be produced in 500 copies.
