VSK host OBESSU workshop!
On Sunday 22nd January, OBESSU Board Member Jessie Seal was invited to run a workshop for our Flemish members Vlaamse Scholierenkoepel (VSK). Keen to find out how VSK’s everyday activists can get more involved with OBESSU, VSK asked us to run a session and we were very happy to oblige! After a short trip by Eurostar to Brussels, Jessie arrived in Lokeren (where the weekend was held) on Saturday evening. An evening of chatting to VSK activists, followed by a team building game made sure that everyone was in great spirits and excited (if a little tired) for Sunday morning!
Waking everyone up with several energizers and using OBESSU’s well-known non-formal education methods, Jessie ran the workshop as a taster to OBESSU and our work. It also presented the perfect opportunity to find out what key priorities VSK think should be on OBESSU’s next workplan (due to be presented to the GA May 2012).
Working in small groups, members were encouraged to question ‘Why take part in international work?’, they looked strategically at what VSK both wants from OBESSU and also identified their expertise that they wish to share with other OBESSU members. The VSK members came up with an array of excellent ideas, from increased communication with local activists, to a focus on Volunteering in OBESSU’s next workplan.
OBESSU thoroughly enjoyed running this workshop and would like to thank VSK for inviting us. If you think your Member or Observer organisation would benefit from an OBESSU workshop, we encourage you to get in touch!
