2001
OSKU was founded in 2001, but its roots are in the 100-year-old tradition of two former student organisations in Finland. Students from vocational upper secondary education have formed an organisation. OSKU’s fundamental principles are always been independence and trust in vocational students themselves, as students are in charge of all OSKU’s decisions and actions.
OSKU can be joined by any person studying in secondary vocational education in Finland.
Members of OSKU get the AMIS student card. As a member they get lots of benefits, the possibility to join different events and trainings organised by OSKU. Members also serve and support in all situations form studies to lobbying.
The AMIS student card is also a European Youth Card and thus entitles to various benefits in Finland and elsewhere in Europe.
In OSKU all the power and responsibility of the action lies with the students. They know the best situation with vocational education. We trust and appreciate our members, that is why we want to hear our members' opinions. OSKU's activities are based on strong member democracy. All the decisions are made by our members.
OSKU operates as a student interest and service organisation at the national level as well as to promote and monitor students’ general and common interests especially in academic, social, educational and legal matters. OSKU increases its internationalisation.
OSKU organises national and regional events and trainings for members each year. In addition, OSKU provides or student unions with tailor-made training tailored to their current needs, as well as various support and counseling services related to student activities. OSKU also takes a stand on community issues related to students.
• AMIS 2018 -tutkimus, research of vocational school students. The research explored the experiences, attitudes, and sensibilities of Finnish vocational school students.
• OSKU’s RoadShow. Every autumn, OSKU RoadShow tours vocational schools in Finland, where OSKU’s activists tell about OSKU's activities, spreading OSKU's message of joy, vocational school students’ pride and good spirits.
• #IlmanAmista (#WithoutVocationalStudents). The purpose of the #WithoutVocationalStudents -campaign is to convey information, understanding, and appreciation of vocational education to different target groups. You can follow the content for the general public on Instagram with the hashtags #IlmanAmista and in English #WithoutVocationalStudents.
