1998
ŠUS was estabilished in 1998 in Bratislava as a part of three youth organisations. Its estabilishment was iniciated by representatives of Students´ alternative , Students´ Parlament and Council of secondary schools. In year 2006 this oraganisation was transformed into ŠUS as we know it now.
General secondary and VET school students.
Number of Members: more than 900 individual members.
ŠUS tries to involve students into decision-making procces of their own education, give them possibility to arrange their own projects and ideas, supports their general development and last but not least ŠUS tries to defend student rights and interests.
Nowadays, ŠUS is developing the political platform and attend the structure dialogue with the ministry of education. Furthermore, The organisation would like to reduce the big amount of projects to 4, and focus on defending student´s rights in greater extend.
- Creating the political platform;
- Writing the handbook concerning the establishment of school student councils;
- Gender equality;
- LGBTIQ;
- Influencing media;
- Launching law campaign;
- Cooperation with ČSU and creating projects.
ŠUS organises several projects throughout 2015/2016:
- Students in movement ( September)
- Fictive country ( November)
- Equal Chances (February)
- Media project ( April)
- General Assembly ( June)
- Summer school (August)
One of ŠUS most successful project so far has been Equal chances, as the only one led in English. This event focuses on the problematic of minorities, gender equality, LGBTIQ rights and refugees. This project is usually organised by the International Officer and one Board member, who tries to implement topics discussed during OBESSU activities.
Another panned out project is Media project, led in Slovak, where participants have real possibility how to handle video, cameras and computer. ŠUS usually invites several external guests, who work in field of media and help participants to go through it. This year ŠUS invited two journalists , who had a panel discussion of current manipulation.
